Coaching Staff
Andy Richards
Head Coach
Coach Richards starts his second year as Head Coach hoping to guide the team back to the Sweet 16 after coming so close last year. Born in Boston, England, rugby has been a major part of Andy's life since he was a boy. He advanced to school & Army Age Group trials in his youth and has played for several clubs including facing the prestigous Bath RFC as a member of a North Devon select team. He has coached several of his regimental teams while serving in the British armed forces. And since moving to the States, he has coached the UMBC team, the Baltimore-Cheasapeake Brumbies, and this year's DII National Champions, the Raliegh Vipers.andyrichards@nc.rr.com
Pete Earsman
Assistant Coach
Coach Earsman has only been with the club for a little over a year but in this time he has raised the standard of core skills within the team to a new level. Born and bred in New Zealand, Pete has played and coached in Australia, Canada, England and South-East Asia. In his playing days he represented the NZ Army, NZ Combined Services, Western Australia, Clifton RFC (UK) & Pirates RFC (Canada). He has been coaching for 15 years, mainly in Australia, and his wealth of experience is already beginning to show at UNC.korufitness@gmail.com
Mike Groenewald
Assistant coach
Mike joins the coaching staff at Chapel Hill fresh on the heels of success at the Men's Division II National championships. Not only did Mike lead the Raleigh Vipers to the national title, but he scored the winning points with the last kick of the game and collected the MVP award as well. Originally from Cape Town, South Africa, Mike started playing rugby at 6 years old and steadily progressed through school and college representative sides (All Stars) playing for South Western Districts, Boland and Western Province. Before moving to the United States Mike played Division One and Super League rugby, and on this side of the Atlantic has made his mark by playing for the Marfu Men's All Stars. Although Mike has many years of playing still in front of him, he wants to start coaching now and we are honoured to have him lend his experience to the club.stormer15m@yahoo.com
