Fayetteville, NC — Using their game plan of moving the ball wide at every opportunity, the Tarheels ran out to a 24-0 lead at half-time with all three tries coming from the backs, Freshman Gregor Maclennan and Sophomore's Alex Lee and Evan Rose.
After the break Fort Bragg, who never gave up the cause, got on the board with 3 unconverted tries of their own. But the Tarheels were to score a further 5 times. Lee and MacLennan both scored again and also so did Eric Martin, Jason Schwartz and Ade Ayodele. MacLennan only missed one conversion and also added a penalty.
Sure the score looks one sided, but the real story was that this young Tarheel side were able to match the physicality of the Fort Bragg soldiers and showed great resilience at the break down and in defense. And with 6 of the 7 tries being scored by the backs, UNC's potent attack really looked sharp.
Thanks go to our host's Fort Bragg, who played with great heart and passion, during what is a very busy and turbulent time for our armed forces. We are all very proud what you do for us, and we look forward to seeing you all in Chapel Hill next year.
Next week the Tarheels take a break before going on a fall break tour to the North East, playing another Men's side Severn River and then Columbia University.
