UNC to Co-host the First Ever Atlantic Coast Invitational Tournament

by Nathan Nyanjom

UNCRFC will co-host the first annual Atlantic Coast Invitational Tournament, to be held the weekend of April 5th and 6th in Raleigh, North Carolina.

The Raleigh Vipers Rugby Club has graciously offered to hold this collegiate tournament at their remarkable facilities. Centrally located, the Vipers provide the most accommodating fields for the teams coming from all 12 Atlantic Coast Conference schools

UNC Rugby coach Andy Richards hopes that the tournament will become an annual fixture on all teams’ spring schedules. “This will be the first year that we have tried to run this event, and are hoping that it will grow year after year. We are negotiating with sponsors and a broadcast company for next year – hopefully this will help the travel costs for those schools that are coming from some distance away.”

UNC will co-host the event with the Wake Forest University Rugby Football Club. And UNC especially extends thanks to the tournaments organizers – Pat Kane, Director of Rugby at Wake Forest and Andy Richards, Head Coach UNCRFC.

The first weekend of April will surely be a grand one for any fan of rugby, as Raleigh, North Carolina will see the first ever Atlantic coast collegiate champion.
